Wilmington’s own Matt Meakin was a recipient of the Masters Guild Contest and received the highest honor- The Marque of Distinction Award. Meakin won a trip to the United Kingdom where he was able to ride around in some of the world’s most renowned automobiles all while celebrating his great achievements.
The top 36 master sales guides in the entire United States and Canada were selected (based on various performance metrics) to participate in the Masters Guild Contest. Of those 36, the top 15 won a trip to the UK. The trip included an awards banquet and the top finisher (Meakin himself) was honored with the Marque of Distinction Award, but the real treat was taking the wheel in some of the most classically esteemed cars in the world.
“I got to ride around in the Queen Mum’s Jaguar XJ12, the very first Land Rover Discovery ever made (in 1989) with only 1200 original miles on it, along with various other classic Land Rovers and Jaguars,” Meakin says.
While taking a break from experiencing all the action first hand, Meakin got to watch multimillion dollar Ferraris, Ford GT40s and Aston Martins race wheel-to-wheel around the track driven by Formula One and LeMans champions. Something that most of us, even in the auto industry, only get to see through the telly.
Meakin also got a tour of the Land Rover factory in Solihull and the JLR proving grounds at Gaydon. Here he was able to hurl a new 495hp F-Type V8-S around the test track at 180 MPH and take a 2013 right-hand drive Defender 110 diesel off-road. No small feat.
“It was an amazing trip and I owe it to all my fantastic clients and everyone on the LRCF team. It really is a team effort keeping our clients 100% enamored with us everyday,” Meakin adds.
Congrats Matt! I can’t say that I was surprised to read that you won such a prestigious award. Your friendly and caring disposition paired with the personalized attention you provide your customers speaks volumes of your hard work and dedication to your job and commitment to your customers and Land Rover Cape Fear. I hope you enjoyed your trip!
Congrats again and all the best!
